Since my brother was always tinkering with a car, radio, home applicance, or something, it didn't surprise me very much when he & one of his sons built (& fired) several rockets... just because it was cool!
OK, so I'm into inventions! Little wonder that I chose Engineering for my major!
In cruising the internet lately, I have come across a few really interesting web sites that have to do with inventions.
Design that Matters is a non-profit company who builds incubators for premature babies in developing countries. The inovation is that the parts and technology they use is from common car parts! This way, if it breaks, parts & knowledge will be at hand.
Home Resource Furniture makes bedrooms disappear! Especially, as people move into crowded cities with tiny apartments, every piece of furniture must be inovative & serve more than one purpose. Check out their Space Saving line of furniture & see how they work!
Aptera, the futuristic electric car that is designed like an airplane
Siftables, the first tabletop game platform that is a computer that looks like blocks.
The Centre for Vision in the Developing World, and their lead inventor, Dr. Joshua Silver, has invented a pair of eyeglasses that are self-adjusting. They certainly aren't vogue glasses, but for a tiny fraction of what you & I pay for glasses, they can bring better vision to people who have blurry vision but no opportunity to ever consult with an eye doctor.

And, you can't have inventions without mistakes! Marketing guru, Seth Godin, looks at mistakes & fails in inventions in his video "This is broken". To continue the fun, check out his blog, to add to his conversation!
